Data and cloud

Changing cloud providers starts with the contract

The Data Act and the questions to ask before signing a cloud services agreement.

Check the scope

Chapter VI of the Data Act addresses switching between data processing services. Start by identifying the service you are buying and which obligations apply to the provider in that model.

Describe what must move

Describe the data, metadata and configuration needed to keep operating. Agree the format, export method, responsibilities and migration sequence. Separately check whether the new provider can reproduce the functions you need.

Test whether the plan works

Run a test export before giving notice. Check how long restoration takes and when copies can be deleted from the old provider. The test helps determine whether the contract and migration procedure give the business enough time.
